FAQ

  1. Why is it necessary to provide appliance specifications during the pre-design stage?
Kitchens are typically designed around the appliances. It is important for the client to provide all the proper specifications so that we can customize any cabinets for proper fit.
  2. What are the different door materials that Heffner offers?
We offer melamine, laminate, thermofoil, wood, and MDF doors. Heffner has the capabilities to produce all of our MDF doors in house as well.
  3. How do I clean my kitchen cabinets?
Clean occasionally with a soft, clean cloth moistened with water (add a mild dishwashing liquid to remove any sticky substances); wipe again with a clean dry cloth. Do not use cleansers (Ajax, SOS pads etc.) acids, alkalis or ammonia (Windex); they will damage or discolour the surface. Any cleansers used to clean the surface will void the warranty on the finish. Do not rub too hard on the surface while cleaning as this may cause the sheen to dull or cause potential scratches on the surface of the door.
  4. Does Heffner Cabinetry reface doors and drawer fronts?
Unfortunately, that is a service that we do not offer. However, there are a few locations in the Tri-City that could further assist you.
  5. Why can we not paint over wood doors?
Over time, as wood expands and contracts, you will see cracks at a wood door when it is finished with paint. Technically, wood doors can be painted instead of stained, but you must sign a waiver acknowledging that you will see cracks in the paint finish. If you want a painted finish, order MDF doors. MDF is the industry standard material for painted cabinetry doors; it provides a superior finish.
  6. Why does a 36” wide cabinet not fit within the 36” wide wall-to-wall dimension?
To ensure that all doors and drawers can properly open, we add fillers between the cabinet box and adjacent wall. If there were no fillers, the door, drawer fronts, and hardware would likely contact the wall and therefore prevent the client from properly accessing their cabinetry and causing damage to the door and/or wall overtime.
  7. What is your standard base cabinetry height? Vanity height?
Our standard base cabinetry height is 34 ½” high and our standard vanity height is 32 ½” high from finished floor. Both heights do not take into account the countertop thickness.
  8. Do we remove/uninstall cabinetry?
Unfortunately, we do not remove or uninstall any cabinetry as that is out of our scope of work. The client will have to hire a contractor to remove the cabinetry or they may remove it themselves. Existing cabinetry can also be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
  9. Do we do our own electrical for our light valance and glass cabinets?
We do not do our own electrical; you will be required to hire an electrician to install the lights for your light valance and glass cabinets if applicable.
  10. Do we install countertops?
Yes, we install all countertops that are supplied by Heffner Cabinetry and Stoneworks. We offer post form laminate, quartz, and porcelain countertops.
  11. Do you install all over Ontario?
Yes, we can install all over Ontario. Jobs outside of the Tri-Cities will be subject to additional travel-related expenses.
  12. How long will it take to receive my new cabinetry?
Depending on the size of your project, it could be anywhere from 6-12 weeks to receive your new cabinetry.
